Since childhood, Tohu and Bohu have loved one another, whispering their devotion from opposite shores of the river dividing them. Their parents renounce this bond, yet Tohu and Bohu grow, and their love swells alongside them. Then war erupts across their land—a harrowing storm that consumes all, tearing through men, women, beasts, and boughs. Both left orphaned, both haunted witnesses to horror. They must flee, yet where to turn? What sanctuary will let them revive peace and tender affection? What realm will open its arms to these two wanderers? They venture toward Greece, land of the Trojan Horse legend, but Tohu shrinks from this cradle of tragedies. They seek Mount Tatos, but a monk denies their vibrant, carnal passion. They cross toward America, briefly believing freedom resides there, but it is mere illusion, revealing only further division and gated exiles. Bohu envisions but one refuge: gentle France, the cherished landscape of her childhood. Yet even there, an unforeseen revelation awaits.
